«Guaranteed security is a prerequisite of economic growth». This was announced by the IDIS expert Veaceslav Ionita during presentation of the study «Why do we need NATO? Or why the existence of Moldova as the independent nation depends on the accession to NATO ». According to Ionita, there is a direct and obvious link between the security and the volume of foreign direct investments (FDI). According to IDIS Viitorul estimations, the possible integration into NATO means 25 thousand of new jobs per year. Moreover, in this case the country will be able to get foreign direct investment of $ 2 billion per year within 10 year period. Speaking on the cost of security, which in the case of integration to NATO will make 1-1,5% of GDP, as compared with 0,5-0,9% now, Veaceslav Ionita said that it is a good investment. «These costs will easily pay off in the result of creation of new jobs and growth of production volumes», -Veaceslav Ionita has noted.
