The IDIS “Viitorul” House Price Index is intended to track the evolution of Moldovan home prices across time. IDIS constructs this measure independently and relies solely on publicly available data. We collect prices of apartments from local realtors and classified advertisements websites, and compute various measures of house price movements.

The main goal of this initiative is to fill the void of information on the Moldovan real estate market. At the time when this project was initiated, there was no serious effort outside IDIS “Viitorul” in creating and maintaining a reliable house price index for Moldova. Existed indices were either not using market prices or using only a small part of the market as their sample. Our index tackles both of these problems.

We hope that our index will guide the policy decisions related to urban development in Moldova. We also hope that this index will serve as a reference point for international investors and the general public, when it comes to their decision to invest in the local housing market.
